Join us for an artist talk with master printmaker, Anthony Davies alongside his exhibition WAR – What is it Good For?
Anthony Davies will share what it is to be a professional printmaker. He says, “I think what is most important above everything else is to continue working.” His talk will touch on his art school training, modern art schools, the time he has spent working in Aotearoa New Zealand and his work ethic. Within that ethic is his drive to make new work. You will have a chance to speak with the artist and experience his new work that looks at the progression of the war in Ukraine. Davies says he felt compelled to undertake this series. He speaks of a sense of injustice as he watches people turned into refugees; “the devastation of ordinary people”.
Anthony was born in England and though he has been here for many years, his is a European sensibility and the voice of an immigrant. He founded his workspace Hotspur Studios in Whanganui in the 2002, where he produces intaglio, lithographic and serigraphic prints.
