Te Manawa Museum presents Solar Tsunamis | Parawhenua Kōmaru, an exhibition developed by Tūhura Otago Museum.

This family-friendly exhibition brings the wonders of space weather to life! 🌌✨ 

Discover how Aotearoa has become a leading country researching ways to protect its electrical grid from a massive space weather event – what NASA calls a Solar Tsunami. 🌞🌍 

Through hands-on activities, you can: 

  • Discover how Faraday’s law of induction powers our homes ⚡🏠 
  • Learn how the same forces can threaten electrical grids across the globe 🌐 
  • Test the resistivity of rocks 🏔️ 
  • Simulate an aurora 🌈 
  • Watch electricity come alive in a giant plasma ball ⚡
