Edith Amituanai is an internationally exhibited photographer. In 2007 she was the recipient of the Marti Friedlander Photographic Award, and in 2019 was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to community and photography.
She created “Edith & George: in our sea of islands” – now on display in the Art Gallery – to begin a Pacific-focused conversation about migration, settlement, identity and other related themes.
Her talk will discuss the genesis of the project and its wider meaning in the context of colonisation and cross-cultural exchange, as well as her broader artistic practice.
The talk is at 12 noon on Friday 8 July in the Art Gallery. Entry is free.
