Artist and teacher Pip Steel has gathered a significant collection of old Japanese rural everyday work-wear and household textiles, known today as Boro. In this talk she will trace the beginnings of her fascination with these unique timeworn cloths and delve into the ‘hows’ and the ‘whys’ of their existence.
There will be the opportunity to handle and look closely at sashiko-stitched, mended examples that have passed through generations of Japanese hands, and admire the Boro – timeworn textiles of Japan exhibition.
This event is free for the public to attend and no registrations are needed.
